During Suicide Prevention Month this September, we want to raise awareness about this critical issue and offer support to those in need.
In Hong Kong, there were 1,138 reported suicide cases in 2024, marking the highest figure since 2003. Mental Health issues, including depression and anxiety, significantly contribute to suicidal thoughts and ideation. Immediate intervention is essential.
Suicide Prevention Month allows us to raise awareness and encourage open conversations about mental health. By doing this, we hope to reduce the stigma attached to mental health issues and build a community which fosters a safe and supportive environment for individuals to seek help.
Many individuals who struggle with mental health challenges, including suicidal thoughts, face significant barriers that prevent them from seeking the help they need. The main barriers include:
Stigma: Some people experience a fear of judgment or discrimination, which discourages them from seeking help.
Lack of awareness: Some people may not be aware of the resources available to them
Financial constraints: Although there are many options available, the cost of Counselling can be a significant barrier.
Cultural Factors: Some communities believe that discussing mental health is taboo or indicates weakness if you seek support. This mindset can be a huge barrier to overcome.
Addressing these barriers is the first step towards increasing access to mental health support. We hope to empower individuals to take charge of their mental health and to create a community which prioritizes a safe and supportive space for everyone.
To support those who may be struggling, we are committed to removing barriers by offering a free counselling session for anyone in need. Our goal is to create an accessible, non-judgmental, and confidential environment where individuals can feel safe to express their feelings and seek help.
No strings attached.
No obligations.
Just an opportunity to break down barriers, start the conversation and receive support and resources to promote mental well-being.
